Botswana/Namibia Market Visit

In partnership with Derbyshire-Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire Chambers of Commerce, the African British Business Association and the School Development Support Agency, Leicestershire Chamber has been investigating opportunities for local businesses to grow by trading with new overseas markets in Africa.

South Africa is an important UK trading partner and is the centre of a wider region of economic growth. The neighbouring countries of Namibia and Botswana share many common factors with South Africa, such as air road and rail links, Commonwealth membership and sectors such as precious metals and diamonds. Both Botswana and Namibia are stable societies, and they are highly rated by the World Bank as best places to invest in Africa.

These two countries are also convenient gateways not only to other SADC neighbouring markets, but particularly to Angola which is experiencing high growth in its economy recently.

We have identified an opportunity to introduce interested UK businesses to the opportunities in Botswana, through Botswana Expo in November 2013. It will be an opportunity to engage with new Food Processing projects, Energy Distribution Infrastructure contracts, Agricultural industry, Financial Sector, Mining sector support and Manufacturing sectors such as Glass, Textile and Leather processing and Pharmaceuticals.

Namibia holds similar opportunities as its neighbour Botswana however with focus on Agricultural industry, Energy generation, Infrastructure contracts, Oil & Gas exploration and Mining /Prospecting not only diamonds but other minerals such as uranium, zinc, gold, and salt, as well as manufacturing of Electronics, Textiles, Pharmaceuticals and Furniture, as well as Education and Transport & Logistics Services sectors.

As upcoming economies both Namibia and Botswana have education as their prime priority. Leicester based SDSA will facilities opportunities for FE and HE institutes to form partnerships and to establish links in these countries.

If your company would be interested in finding out more, the partners are planning an information session. If you wish to register your interest in receiving details of this market visit please contact:
