In recognition of the necessity to improve trade ties between the UK and Africa, AfBBA was set up and launched in 2004, with the assistance of the Leicester Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Since, then, it has been able to demonstrate the need for cooperation through series of initiatives.
Actively engaging with the African Union diplomatic corps in London and have had series of visits from various embassies and High commissions to Leicester and the region. AfBBA has built strong contacts with various African Governments and regional institutions, including the New Africa Partnership for Development (NEPAD).
AfBBA assisted in initiating contacts between the Ugandan High Commission and the African-Asian Diaspora Community in Leicester, which has resulted in the recent visit of the President Y. Musiveni to Leicester.
AfBBA has taken part in a number of trade international forums and Government conferences.
It has assisted in hosting trade missions to Leicester and assisted African Government trade officials to become more familiar with the UK Government political and trade institutions
AfBBA has actively foster participation of more African countries at the Royal Agricultural Show in Coventry, and has initiated and hosted conferences at the Show.
AfBBA contributed to the Africa Commission Report to the G8 Meeting which tool place at the Glen eagles in 2005 and to NEAD policy issues on trade development.
AfBBA has also been encouraging private sectors in both regions to engage with one another, and believes much could be done to increase the level of trade activities.
